This region was historically part of the Kurumbranad Kingdom.Until the 1940s, the area was primarily forest land where elephants and tigers roamed.With the start of migration (kudiyettam) in the 1940s, this eastern hilly region transformed into an area for cash crop production.The first mud road in the region (the current Naduvannur-Kuttalida road) was established in 1938.Kottoor Panchayat was formed on December 12, 1961.Bus service on the main road began in 1968.
